Spalted Beech #45

£30.00

Spalted beech

This piece was felled, milled, dried and stabilised all within 300m of my workshop.

This tree had to come down due to safety concerns and I was very fortunate to salvage the wood from it.

The spalting process is where two species of decay fungi infect the wood, when the colonies meet they create a dark band (called the reaction zone) which is the classic figure that you see. This decay fungi form pseudoscerotial plates which help to give the different colours in the wood and levels of decay

These have been professionally stabilised and are fully ready to work, they will take a lovely polish too

Around 50x30x150mm
