Trengganu Ebony
Trengganu Ebony
This is a species of Ebony that has never been in the UK before, I was incredibly lucky to find a singular piece and bring it over.
I released a few blocks mid last year and then a few more at the sharp show but since then it has been stashed away.
These pieces come from Malaysia where it is only reserved for royalty, it is actually illegal for a Malaysian citizen to own this wood (so sorry to all of my Malaysian customers, unfortunately I cannot ship this to you)
These are the only pieces that I have and once it’s gone it’s gone, will likely never be seen again.
This piece was found in an ex-logging camp, they had clear felled an entire area and once they realised what this tree was they ended up leaving it in situ.
One of my suppliers (who specialises in going round old logging camps, hunting for pieces of wood) found this piece and let me know straight away. It took a few months of looking at samples, chatting with professors from various universities and eventually worked out that it was in fact Trengganu ebony.
As with any Ebony species there will be some micro cracks and checks in the wood, but this does not hinder the stability or quality.
A little bit of CA glue will sort that straight out
